Job Description We are seeking a dynamic and experienced EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Instructor to join our team in a full-time capacity. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education at the community college level and Continuing Education settings. The primary focus of this role is to instruct and prepare students for careers in emergency medical services, with a particular emphasis on the full spectrum of AHA training required for EMS certification.
 
Required Qualifications

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field .
  • Certifications: Must have an IOWA EMS Instructor credential, or be eligible to obtain such. Must be credentialed to instruct multiple AHA courses, such as BLS, ACLS and PALS, which may be required for EMS certification.
  • Experience: Significant experience in EMS, with a focus on paramedicine. Teaching experience in a community college setting is highly desirable.
  • Licensure: Current state EMS licensure or the ability to obtain licensure in the state of employment. National Registry certification also highly recommended.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to the overall success of the EMS program.
  • Team Player: Willingness to assist the Program Manager in various administrative tasks associated with program operations.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • National Registry certification
Physical Demands This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
This would require the ability to lift roughly 50 lbs, textbooks, and student work, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
Prolonged periods walking, standing and/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Requires the ability to sit or stand in a classroom during extended instructional periods.
Salary Starting: $51,000 - $66,000
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
 
  1. Course Instruction:

     

    • Develop and deliver comprehensive EMS courses at the community college and Continuing Education levels
    • Instruct students on a range of topics, including but not limited to anatomy, physiology, emergency medical procedures, patient assessment, and pharmacology.
  2. AHA Training:
    • Possess credentials to instruct multiple AHA courses, including BLS, ACLS and PALS, as well as other AHA offerings required for EMS certification.
    • Provide hands-on training and practical demonstrations in CPR techniques, ensuring students acquire the necessary skills for emergency response.
  3. Curriculum Development:
    • Collaborate with the curriculum development team to create and update instructional materials to meet current industry standards and align with the mission of the community college.
  4. Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Design and implement assessments to measure student understanding and skill proficiency.
    • Provide constructive feedback to students to enhance their learning experience.
  5. Program Manager Support:
    • Work closely with the Program Manager to assist in the coordination and execution of EMS programs as well as Continuing Education and outreach.
    • Collaborate on program planning, scheduling, and monitoring to ensure smooth operation and adherence to program goals.
  6. Mission Upholding:
