Jackson County Historical Society's Heritage Day
Scheduled Events:
2:30 pm - Program by Gene Kieffer of Preston
An avid student of archeology, Gene will call upon his many years of study to explain the effects of one of the last glacial periods on the course of the Mississippi River. This greatly impacted Jackson County farms - the theme for 2017!!! As the Native Americans were our very first farmers, Gene will bring his personal collections of arrowheads as well as talk about selected items from the Museum’s collection.
3:30 pm - Hall of Fame
Each year the names of persons who have made noteworthy and lasting contributions to this area are submitted, reviewed by a committee, and one or more are then selected for induction. This year two well known men have been chosen: Everett Schoenthaler, early Maquoketa attorney, and James Marousis of Royal Confectionary fame. The stories of their respective lives will be shared in words and photos.
4:00 - 7:00 pm - Heritage Dinner/Silent Auction
The Heritage Dinner will be held across the way in Janssen Hall. Serving will begin at 4:00PM and continue until 7:00PM. The dinner will be prepared by Jeronimo’s in Springbrook and feature a choice of beef or baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies and salads, dinner rolls, dessert and coffee or lemonade.
