Jerry Reisinger, professor at Kirkwood Community College’s Parks & Natural Resources program in Cedar Rapids, worked for Iowa’s State Parks for 38 years. As a park historian and knowing that Iowa state parks would be celebrating its centennial year in 2020, Jerry was naturally drawn to learn more about how Iowa got its state park system. After learning how the legislature created a state park act he turned his attention to the genesis of Backbone becoming Iowa’s first state park. Come and hear this fascinating story about the history of Iowa’s state park system. This presentation is being held in conjunction with the Jackson County Historical Society's weekly Brown Bag Lunch. Bring your own lunch. Cookies and bars will be served.
