The Maquoketa Ministerial Association announces a celebration of the Maquoketa Community Cupboard (MCC) and the Feed the Need Campaign on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 11:15 A.M. at the MCC, 902 West Platt Street. The media is invited to arrive prior to 11:00 A.M. during the regular operations of the Maquoketa Community Cupboard weekly community food pantry operation from 9:00 –
11:00 A.M.  Parking is available, compliments of Brad Deery Motors, in the parking lot across the street at the former Aldi’s parking lot on the south side of the street, next to Rotman Motor Company.

The significant milestone Mortgage Burning News Conference and program will be held at 11:15 A.M., after the cupboard closes its regular operations for the day at 11:00 A.M.  The Maquoketa Ministerial Association is hosting this community celebration of all the donors to the Feed the Need Capital Campaign, the campaign steering committee, the MCC volunteers, and all the people served through this integral human services organization and ministry in this community.
We are excited to present the final mortgage check to Maquoketa State Bank and to burn the mortgage! In less than 20 months, the broad-based support of the entire community has made this major campaign milestone possible:  Paying off the mortgage for the new 902 West Platt Street facility.  The generosity and support of churches, businesses, other community organizations, as well as major and other individual donors, has helped us make outstanding progress with our $290,000 goal, including the $125,000 building purchase price, $30,000 in renovations, and great progress with the $135,000 endowment fund goal as well!
The Maquoketa Community Cupboard began in 1979 in the Maquoketa United Methodist Church, operating out of the church basement.  In 2012, the community food pantry was offered space at the D.A.C. building on West Platt Street without rent or utilities expenses.  When the D.A.C. building was sold, the Maquoketa Community Cupboard leadership explored the best option to purchase the former Movies America building at 902 West Platt Street.  On February 18, 2018, a capital campaign was launched to raise funds in one to three-year pledges with a plan to move into the new facility by
June 30, 2018.  The Maquoketa Community Cupboard began operations in its new facility on the first Friday in July 2019.
